A digipak is a type of packaging commonly used for CDs, DVDs, and other physical media. It is known for its distinctive design, which combines a cardboard outer cover with a plastic tray inside to hold the disc.

History of Digipak

The digipak was introduced in the 1980s by AGI (AGI Media), a company specializing in packaging solutions. It was initially developed as a more durable and visually appealing alternative to the standard plastic jewel case.

In the 1990s, digipaks gained popularity among record labels and artists, particularly for special editions or limited releases.

By the 2000s, they became a mainstream packaging option, especially for CDs and DVDs, due to their aesthetic and environmental advantages.

Today, digipaks are widely used for music albums, movies, and video games.

With the decline of physical media, digipaks are now often reserved for collector's editions or premium releases, catering to fans who value tangible, high-quality packaging.

A typical digipak consists of:

·       A cardboard outer cover with multiple fold-out panels.

·       A plastic tray inside to securely hold the CD or DVD.
